Many years ago I heard on a HK radio station an overview of the Sherlock Holmes series. It was a captivating session, and I thought what a captivating journey it would have been to read all the stories
Some time later I chanced upon the first and second collection of short stories and I found them to be absolute page turners, and decided that they were the best books I ever read. I found out that the author had decided to retire the character after that but relented to reviving it. I hence decided not to read those subsequent works that the author reluctantly wrote
I just finished the second novel and is on my third. Once I finish all four novels I will consider my magical journey compete.
The four novels of the canon:
- A Study in Scarlet (1887)
- The Sign of the Four (1890)
- The Hound of the Baskervilles (1901–1902)
- The Valley of Fear (1914–1915)
The 56 short stories are collected in five books:
- The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (1892)
- The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes (1894)
- The Return of Sherlock Holmes (1905)
- His Last Bow (1917)
- The Case-Book of Sherlock Holmes (1927)
