Day 2 - 4 Jan (Wed)
Today I inadvertently finished reading 'The bridges of Madison County '. I imported a copy of the ebook into my Aldiko reader and it reported '110' pages; at that point in time I thought that was the number of pages in the first chapter, it later transpired that it was the whole book. Before I knew it I finished reading whole book in less than one day;.reading was mostly done during my commute, lunch break and slacking time at work.
'The bridges of Madison county ' is a romance fiction published in 1992. Although it is fiction the author has expressed that it has resemblance to his own private life. The book is a best seller; it is not just A bestseller but it is one of the best selling books of all time. I dug it up from the Wikipedia list of best selling fiction in history.
The book tells the tale of an affair (and its repercussion) between a bored housewife and a middle aged photographer. They had a passionate four day affair (with sex and all which was lightly and tastefully written ). Thereafter despite madly in love with each other they decided to live separate lives and not see each other due to family commitment and social responsibilites and they both had difficult lives because of their relentless and unwavering feelings for each other.
There I summerised. That's about all to the story. It's beautifully written and presented with elegant simplicity.
It is thought provoking work; I wonder if many men/women harbour such fantasies. This kind of things can happen but they rarely do. It is always so near yet so far.
The background was in the 50s or 60s so mobile phone was not around yet. I wonder if their circumstances would change if they had access to mod cons like whatsapp.
